Could This Be New York City’s Best Low-Key Comfort Food Spot

I thought I had seen every wild food creation New York City had to offer, but this place totally changed the game.

If you think you have to choose between a killer smash burger or perfectly crispy fried chicken, you are entirely wrong. I just found a spot that does both at an elite level. Tex’s Chicken & Burgers has locations all over New York, and their motto is "worth every bite." I can confidently say I am completely on board with that statement. The sheer volume of comfort food coming out of this kitchen is absolutely insane.

The Smash Burger Showdown

First up, it is smash burger time. They start with their signature Texas Smash, which features perfectly smashed beef patties, gooey cheese, grilled onions, tangy pickles, and a heavy drizzle of their legendary Texas Sauce. Yes, please. I took a massive bite, and the combination was fantastic. It was an incredible start to the meal.

But then, they raised the stakes with the Hell Smash.

This monster comes with smashed beef, American and Swiss cheese, grilled onions, jalapeños, and a massive dip into their fiery Hell Sauce. Look at that drip! This thing packs a serious punch. I had to take a quick Texas Refresher break to clear my throat before moving on to the Deluxe Smash, which gets packed with crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, white onion, and more of that beautiful sauce.

Every single burger pairs perfectly with their famous crinkle-cut fries. I am a complete sucker for a crinkle-cut fry, and dipping these into the sauce was pure heaven.

Golden, Crispy Fried Chicken

Next up, we moved on to the fried chicken and biscuit boxes. Look at how crispy and flaky those fried chicken tenders look! They are fantastic on their own, but when you combine them with their honey mustard, it is absolute perfection. And the biscuits? Award-winning in my opinion. They are flaky, buttery, and so good.

Then came the real star of the show. Their bone-in fried chicken.

The breading on this chicken is wildly crunchy. I bit into a drumstick, and it was so tender, so flavorful, and unbelievably juicy. I tossed on some of their sweet and sour sauce and never looked back. This is comfort food heaven right here. This place rules. Every single bite is just so delicious.

To finish off the feast, it was time for their Fiery Chicken Sliders. The best part? These are available for just five bucks. They stack these up high, packed with creamy coleslaw, pickles, a giant fried chicken tender, and a heavy zig-zag of Texas hot sauce. Bring on the heat.
